The IRS states that the organization “… cannot participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”
RPBA encourages informed and active participation in civic life, however in keeping with the organization’s non-partisan tax-exempt status under federal law, RPBA requires that its programs, employees and individuals or businesses who participate in RPBA programs refrain from any partisan political activity during program and/or work hours. Further, RPBA’s name, facilities, equipment or resources may not be used for political purposes. Violation of this prohibition could lead the IRS to completely revoke our organization's tax-exempt status or impose excise taxes on our organization.
In practical terms, this means that Glenwood Sunday Market’s Staff, Vendors, Vendor Representatives and Volunteers must refrain from wearing campaign gear, gathering signatures, displaying campaign material and other such activities within the barricades of the market during market hours from load in until load out.
